Bulletin - Winter 2006/2007
Message From the Director, Teri Klein
We wish everyone healthy, happy holidays. We are thankful
for all our active volunteers who are making a real difference in the community.
Special recognition goes to the Norwalk Tree Alliance volunteers who received
the 2006 award of Excellence for Community Trees and Urban Forestry by the U.S.
Conference on Mayors and the Home Depot Foundation. The award was presented at
the Dedication of the Rosa Parks Arboretum this fall. The Arboretum which was
designed by our volunteers in cooperation with the City of Norwalk is located
behind the Columbus Magnet School and will be used as a resource for the
Elementary School Science curriculum.
Kudos to the Liberation Programs (Norwalk & Stamford) which provided a lovely
luncheon for our volunteers who craft blankets and other warm items for the
children of their program and assist with mailings. It was a wonderful
opportunity for everyone to meet each other.
Cheers to the volunteers who helped “Norwalk Reads” distribute hundreds of books
to elementary school children at the Norwalk Libraries and community centers
this fall.
We are delighted to be distributing thousands of hats, mittens, scarves,
blankets and other warm “comfort items” to children and families this winter
season. Our volunteers have been busy knitting them all year long.
A very special thank you to our funding sources: The Corporation for National
and Community Service, the City of Norwalk, the Fitzpatrick Trust, the State of
Connecticut, Department of Social Services, The Town of Wilton, The United Way
of Norwalk and Wilton, and the Wal-Mart Foundation.
Congratulations to….
Marge Ferris, volunteer with the Girl Scout Council of
SW CT, who was featured in the Fall issue of the “Sou’wester Breeze” for her
work with the council. Their office relies on her do all assignments related to
mailings and office management with efficiency and “signature precision”.

Thank you
from “Kambi” goes out to all our volunteers who took the time to create
beautiful quilts, blankets, hats, mittens, scarves and other unique creations.
The distribution this year has been another wonderful success thanks to all of
you. Your efforts are among some of the very best holiday gifts many will
receive during the holiday season. Although the final tally is not complete you
have created over 2000 individual items!! They are all going to those who need
it most in the community.
A poem of appreciation
“At times like this when we are down and out, One may feel as if they are
all alone.
One day all of the sudden someone shows you a very kind act that says to you, “I
am someone who is cared about”.
Even a friend out of nowhere helps to make this house our home. Thank you!”
Kambi (She received a handcrafted blanket & baby outfit from
