ABOUT
NEON
Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now, Inc. (NEON), a private nonprofit organization, is a community action agency serving the greater Norwalk area including New Canaan, Westport, Greenwich, Weston, Wilton, and Darien. Our mission is to reduce the conditions of poverty and to help low-income families and residents become self-sufficient through the delivery of direct programs, services and advocacy at the state, federal, and community level. The systemic change that NEON is trying to achieve is to provide residents and families with the necessary tools and resources to become self sufficient and gainfully employed. We accomplish this by providing a variety of programs and services including childcare, family support, alternative incarceration, energy assistance and after school programs. NEON is the first ray of hope for children of the working and non-working poor to receive early childhood education, after school care and planned academic programs during the summer. We offer opportunities of a second chance for the homeless, people facing eviction, single mothers who lack employable skills, people who can’t afford to heat their homes and teenagers caught up in the court system. NEON’s motto is "Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime." We consist of individual sand affiliate sites from the public and private sectors that come together to serve those in need of temporary assistance.
